Plan A Mardi Gras Party

Mardi Gras Mask

Have you ever wished you could celebrate Mardi Gras in historic French Quarter of New Orleans, but didn't feel like jamming elbow to elbow with thousands of other people while waiting in line for the port-a-potty on Bourbon Street? If you said yes, then a Mardi Gras theme party is the perfect stress free party idea for you. Just follow these easy step by step instructions on how to throw a Mardi Gras theme party. It's one of the most popular party themes, and now that your throwing the party you wont have to flash ‘em to get those shiny Mardi Gras beads

Step 1: Planning Your Mardi Gras Theme Party

1. Send out invitations. About four weeks before your party send out the invitations. There are a many choices of Mardi Gras theme invitations to choose from. Be sure to indicate on the invitation that this is a Mardi Gras theme party and that guests are welcome to wear their craziest Big Easy inspired outfit (think jazz bands, gypsies and jesters). Your invitation will stand out more if you include a favor with the invitation, such as a Mardi Gras mask or a strand of beads. As the host, you'll want to be decked out in all your Mardi Gras theme finery — a quick and easy idea is to slip on an inexpensive Mardi Gras vests from a party store. For a really fun look you can accessorize your outfit with a green felt top hat (I suggest green because it can be used again for St. Patricks Day).

The History of King Cake
King Cake

Did you know that hundreds of thousands of King Cakes are eaten during Mardi Gras each year in New Orleans, Louisiana? In fact, a Mardi Gras party would not be authentic without the traditional King Cake as the center of the party.

The cake is generally made with a rich Danish dough, baked and covered with a sugar topping in Mardi Gras colors; purple representing justice, green representing faith, and gold representing power. The cakes are easy to make, and in New Orleans every baker seems to have its own version for sale. The cakes are prepared for the period between the Twelfth Night and Ash Wednesday. Many are shipped throughout the United States for those recently displaced New Orleanians longing for a taste of Mardi Gras.......

Pat O'Brien's Hurricane
Pat O'Brien's Hurricane

The hurricane was made famous by Pat O'Brien's French quarter bar. Other restaurants and bars now serve this drink but it has become synonymous with Pat O'Brien's. this signature cocktail is a potent fruit punch drink that is served in a special hurricane lamp glass in New Orleans. The drink was created during World War II, when liquor such as whiskey was in low supply and bar owners were forced to order large amounts of rum in order to get their quota of whiskey. Pat O'Brien's has become a tourist mecca, and the Pat O'Brien's Hurricane glass is one of the most sought-after souvenirs in New Orleans.....

"The History of Mardi Gras"
Mardi Gras Banner
Why is Mardi Gras the largest celebration in the world?

Who knows but maybe it is because the theme is letting the crazier part out of us.

It is not called Mardi Gras everywhere, mainly in France and the United States. In Italy where it originated and most of the world it is called Carnivale or similar in Germany it is called Karneval.

This party of parties has survived though priests and rulers have canceled it when things get just TOO out of control. It would reappear even after being outlawed.

Now this year in New Orleans even with Katrina threatening the party by leaving much of the city still unusable, many of the residents have said, “come hell or high water we are going to have Mardi Gras this year.....
